Indian Wells: Niculescu defeats Cirstea to reach second round. Marius Copil, on the main table

Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu (45^th WTA) qualified on Wednesday to the second round at Indian Wells, after defeating another Romanian player, Sorana Cirstea (66thWTA), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the second round, Niculescu will face Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland, 15^th seeded).

In the doubles event, Niculescu will pair with Christina McHale (US) to face main favourites Bethanie Mattek-Sands (US)/Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic).

In the men’s competition, Marius Copil (111^th ATP) qualified to the main table, after defeating Denis Kudla (US, 134^th ATP) 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the last round of the qualifying matches.
