Romania’s tennis player Simona Halep, 1st WTA, has qualified to the third round of the WTA tournament at Indian Wells (California) Saturday morning after defeating Kristyna Pliskova (Czech Republic) 6-4, 6-4.
Simona, returning after a three-week break, started slowly and was led by Pliskova 2-0 and 3-1, balanced the first set at 3-3.
After defeating Kristyna Pliskova, Halep will face in the next round the surprise tennis player Caroline Dolehide, 165th WTA.
The 19-year-old American surprisingly eliminated the 30th seeded, Dominika Cibulkova, following the win in the first round against Shelby Rogers (78th WTA).
Dolehide, the beneficiary of a wild card, won the match in three sets 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
