Romanian tennis player Simona Halep (4th WTA, 6th seeded) has defeated Anett Kontaveit (Estonia, 68th WTA) 6-2, 6-4 on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
The match lasted one hour and 20 minutes. Halep will thus play the third semi-final in Rome, after the ones in 2013 and 2015. Halep and Kontaveit played only one match before, at Miami this year, Halep winning 6-3, 6-0.
Kontaveit previously defeated Andrea Petkovic (first round), Angelique Kerber (1st WTA) and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.
Halep will face in the semi-finals the winner of the match between Daria Gavrilova and Kiki Bertens. For the performance so far the Romanian player will collect 350 WTA points and a cheque worth EUR 115,170.
On Thursday Simona Halep defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia, 17th WTA) 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 and in the previous round Laura Siegemund (32nd WTA) 6-4, 6-4.
