Businessman and former tennis player Ion Ţiriac was elected President of the Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT) on Wednesday, with 32 votes at the Extraordinary General Election Assembly, held at the National Tennis Center.
There were five candidates in the elections, but Marius Vecerdea won 11 votes and Ion Ţupa only 3, while Liviu Ursuleanu and Răzvan Itu did not get any of the 46 votes cast.
At the General Election Assembly voted the 54 associate members (members signatory to the Constitutive Act of the Romanian Tennis Federation). For the quorum meeting the presence of 36 is required.
Former tennis player, chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee during 1998-2004, Tiriac takes over the top position from another tennis player, George Cosac.
