Lidl Responds After Aldi Mocks Romanian Gymnast’s Olympic Outfits

After the German trading company Aldi mocked the costumes of the Romanian gymnasts at the Olympic Games on X, its great rival Lidl offered a fitting reply. Lidl shared AldiUK’s original post and left a tongue-in-cheek reply, in Gen Z vocabulary: “When your ex is in DMs replying to your stories at 2am.”

The reply comes after Aldi reposted on Thursday, on the X platform, a picture of Romania’s equipment, along with the message “You look great tonight babe – @ LidlGB”. The company compared the colors of the Romanian flag with those of the rival store chain.
Aldi is short for “ALbrecht DIskont”, a German cash and carry retail company originally established in 1913 and named after the current owners, brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht.
Lidl is an international discount supermarket chain originating in Germany and owned by the Schwarz group, one of Europe’s largest retail conglomerates. The Lidl network operates in many countries in Europe and in the United States.
