The Romanian Chess Federation announces the organization of the Bucharest Grand Prix Rapid 2025 international chess tournament, which will take place on May 10–11, 2025, at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest. With a total prize fund of €26,000, including €3,000 for the winner, the tournament promises to be one of the most important rapid chess events of the year, attracting top players from around the world as well as prominent guests.
“We are honored to host this prestigious tournament, offering participants an impressive venue and top-level organization to showcase their skills. The 2024 edition of the Bucharest Grand Prix Rapid was the largest chess tournament ever held in Romania, and in 2025 we aim to surpass that success. Bucharest Grand Prix Rapid 2025 highlights our commitment to strengthening Romania’s position on the European chess map,” said Gabriel Grecescu, Secretary General of the Romanian Chess Federation.
The tournament is open to all professional Romanian and international players.
In 2024, 442 players from 20 countries participated at the Palace of the Parliament, including 29 Grandmasters, 22 International Masters, 3 Woman Grandmasters, and 5 Woman International Masters.
May 2025: A Prolific Month for Chess in Romania
Also taking place in May is the Chess Classic Romania 2025, part of the prestigious Grand Chess Tour global circuit, making Bucharest a true hub of world chess this spring.
