Rhythmic Gymnastics: The 16th edition of Irina Deleanu Cup to start on Friday, 70 athletes from 15 countries compete

The 16th edition of the Irina Deleanu Cup in rhythmic gymnastics, competition included in the international calendar of the world body, will run the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest during March 31-April 2.  70 athletes from 15 countries will compete, including Russia, the US and Bulgaria, announced on Thursday Irina Deleanu, the President of Romanian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, during a press conference at the COSR.

In the competition for juniors and for women seniors, Romania will be represented by eight gymnasts, headed by Ana Luiza Filiorianu (photo), who competed in the Olympic Games 2016, and gymnasts from national sports clubs, who will verify their potential in view of participating to the 2018 junior world championship.

Ana Luiza Filiorianu, currently the best gymnast in Romania, will participate in both individual events and individual all-around event, with the desire to get on the podium.

The rhythmic gymnastics national team, pending for training halls, is training in the Antilopa gym and as of May will move to Floreasca sports hall.

“We have a promise from Minister Marius Dunca that in two years we will have a refurbished sports hall, the former Triumf sports club. We look forward to this solution, but for now we train at the Antilopa gym and hope to train in Floreasca sports hall, a beautiful hall and conducive to gymnastics,” Irina Deleanu said.
