Lucian Gabriel Surdeanu was detained by Israeli police after hitting his daughter, tennis player Andrada Surdeanu. Ranked 249 in the junior female tennis player top, she had lost a match at the Kiryat Shmona tour on Thursday. Surdeanu, who is also coaching his daughter, appeared before a judge on Tuesday. According to the Romanian consul Adrian Adam quoted by ProSport, he got a counsel for the defence appointed by the judge.
Andrada Surdeanu lost the tennis game 6-2, 7-6 to Russian Daria Krujkova, failing to reach the competition semifinals. Krujkova told juniortennis.ru that she did not see the incident, but she heard screams and noticed her rival was bleeding on the face.
”After I won the game, Ioana remained on the tennis court with her father and coach. Personally, I did not see him hitting her, but there were witnesses telling he has hit her several times. She screamed and the coach ran to bring a towel as she was bleeding on the nose. The referee told me Police arrested her father,” the Russian tennis player told the quoted source.
Andrada Surdeanu confirmed the incident in a post on her Facebook page, but said she was hit only once and did not need any medication. The junior tennis player explained she was guilty for his father reaction, saying she deserved the hit as she had behaved irresponsibly.
