Romanian esports team Nexus plays today the first qualifying matches for the Copenhagen Major

Nexus Gaming starts today, for the first time for a Romanian esports team, the qualification campaign for the most prestigious Counter-Strike competition in the world. RMR (Regional Major Rankings) will be played in Bucharest until 22 February, without spectators. Of the 32 teams from Europe and CIS playing in the Romanian capital, only 17 will qualify for the Major. If they go ahead, the Romanians from Nexus will participate in March at the PGL Major in Copenhagen, where the world’s top 24 teams compete for prizes worth a total of $1.25 million.

The Romanian team composed of Cătălin “BTN” Stănescu, Adrian “Xellow” Guță, Cosmin “ragga” Teodorescu, Alexandru “s0und” Ștefan and Ersin “Ersin” Chiriac will play today from 16:00 the first match of the RMR B group against Astralis, the Danish team considered the greatest in the history of the game. Astralis have a record of winning 4 Majors, including 3 titles in a row. The group is also formed of teams such as Vitality, Heroic, OG, GamerLegion and Cloud 9. Depending on the result of the first game, Nexus will find out the name of their next opponent.

In order to qualify for the Major in Copenhagen, Nexus needs 3 wins in these days, and if they lose 3 games, they will be eliminated from the competition.

At this moment, after the qualifications of the first group, RMR A, Romania already has 2 Romanian players qualified for the Major with the teams they play for. Adam “adamS” Marian, former Nexus player, member of the Spanish team KOI and Mihai “iM” Ivan, also former Nexus player, member of the Ukrainian team Na’Vi, qualified for the Major after 3 wins and 1 loss. Mihai Ivan is for the third time in a row at a Major tournament, last year Mihai reaching the final and became vice world champion with his former team GamerLegion.

These week, two other Romanians, possible opponents of Nexus in the next rounds, are playing their chance to qualify. They are Iulian “regali” Herjali, member of the Danish team OG and Sebastian “volt” Maloș, player of the German team GamerLegion.

Team Nexus Gaming matches will be available to watch on PGL’s YouTube and Twitch channels on February 19, starting at 4pm.
