Tennis player Simona Halep was awarded the ‘Athlete of 2014’ title by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) on Wednesday. Moreover, the Olympic body’s president proposed Simona to join the national Olympic team for 2016 Olympic games and, if she accepts, she will be the standard bearer.
“I have decided together with my colleagues that Simona Halep deserves this distinction for her 2014 results. It was a year when she did Romania proud through her victories on the tennis court,” Alin Petrache said.
In 2014 Simona Halep won Doha and Bucharest tours, entered the finals at Madrid, Roland Garros and The Champions tours and got to the semifinals at Wimbledon.
