The Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT) has announced on Friday the athletes chosen to represent Romania at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro this summer.
Tennis players: Simona Halep, Irina Begu, Monica Niculescu, Horia Tecau, Florin Mergea, Alexandra Dulgheru, Andreea Mitu, Raluca Olaru, Sorana Cirstea.
Technicians: Alina Cercel Tecsor – women’s team coach; Andrei Pavel – men’s team coach; Dumitru Haradau – coordinator coach, Theodor Cercel – physical coach, Daiana Mergea – nutritionist, Gelu Cosma – physiotherapist, Marian Geba – masseur, Dr. Stefan Irimia, Dr . Sorin Popescu. The project will be coordinated by George Cosac, FRT President.
In the men’s singles event Romania will have no representative.
In the doubles men’s event, Romania will be represented by Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea. Also, Romania will be represented in the mixed doubles competition, the pairs will be decided upon later (Tecau and Mergea will register, the pairs are to be decided later).
The summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be held during August 5-26, 2016.
