With the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany just around the corner next month, and the Olympic Games in Paris kicking off at the end of July, and with Romania qualifying for the Euro 2024, Romanians are planning to mix sports and vacation.
Romania will be playing 3 football games: on June 17th, June 22nd and June 26th, in Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt, respectively. According to a travel tech company, Germany thus appears as the 3rd most popular destination among Romanians for that period, after Italy and Spain, and followed by Greece, all summer destinations.
Munich and Frankfurt are the top destinations for Romanians traveling to Germany, with Cologne ranking 6th. Given Germany’s efficient public transport, many might opt to travel by train between cities. The busiest travel dates coincide with Romania’s three matches, particularly June 17th, which is the peak travel date for Romanians heading to Germany in June.
On average, Romanians will spend six days in Germany, enough time to see two matches. However, 77% plan to stay up to three days, likely choosing their favorite city or stadium. About 9% will stay for 4 to 6 days, while 7% will spend 7 to 10 days in Germany.
Interest in traveling to Germany for the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship surged at the beginning of the year and has been steadily increasing. Year-on-year searches for Munich have risen by 122%, for Frankfurt by 77%, and for Cologne by 196%.
Good success Romania, bring back the CUP!
