Romania’s Fed Cup team has left Monday morning heading for the Czech Republic, for the match during the weekend counting for World Group I.
Simona Halep, 3rd WTA, said before the departure that the Czech team has an advantage by playing at home.
“We might say it’s an advantage for us that Petra (Kvitova) will not play. The match is tough anyway. It’s the toughest match in the groups. We’ve faced them two years ago and we lost, unfortunately. For everybody is a disadvantage to play away. We know the public is very loud. We have to adapt to what we have,” Simona Halep said, Digi Sport informs.
“Our team has always been strong, we had chances to win every match. Two years ago maybe experience mattered. Now we are more mature and I believe we have more changes. Nothing is impossible. We leave with open minds and with confidence,” the Romanian tennis player added.
The match between Czech Republic and Romania will take place on February 9-10. The winner qualifies to the semi-finals, the losing team will play the play-off for remaining in World Group I.
Romanian team includes Simona Halep, Muhaela Buzarnescu, Irina Begu, Monica Niculescu and Ana Bogdan.
Petra Kvitova, 2nd WTA, will not play for the Czech Republic.
