Rugby: Romania 13 Spain 3, in 2nd round of Rugby Europe Championship

Romania’s national rugby team has defeated on Saturday, the Spain national rugby team 13-3 (10-3), in the second round of the Rugby Europe Championship (REC), in a match that took place on the ‘Arcul de Triumf’ National Stadium in Bucharest.

In the first match of the competition Romania was unexpectedly defeated by Germany 41-38 (20-24) in Offencach on February 11. The next match of the national team is on March 4 against Russia in Sochi.

Rugby Federation President Alin Petrache posted on his Facebook page that the victory against Spain is “very important in view of the qualification for the World Cup 2019.”

“We’ve won today an important match against Spain in view of the RWC 2019. The game and the score maybe were below the supporters’ expectations, but after all, the victory is important. I hope the staff finds the way to bring back the team to the level of the play last year. The defeat against Germany is painful, but it will become even more painful if we do not learn our lesson,” Petrache said.

“I hope we will all enjoy a new qualification to the World Cup,” he added.
