Sensational victory at WTA Finals in Singapore: Simona Halep defeats Serena Williams

Romanian Simona Halep sensationally blows away Serena Williams 6-0, 6-2 on Wednesday, in her second game at WTA Tournament of Champions in Singapore. Halep, ranked 4 WTA, had the best performance in her tennis career, defeating No.1 Williams after only 65 minutes. Simona lost three previous games to Serena, at Wimbledon in 2011 and last year, in Rome and Cincinnati.

Romania’s Simona Halep comfortably defeated Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-3 on Monday’s opening night of the WTA Finals. In a clash of the only two players making their first appearance at the season-ending championships, Halep lost only four points when getting her first serve into play. “Maybe I can believe,” Halep said. “I have the chance to win this tournament, but I don’t want to think about this,” the Romanian tennis player stated on Monday, after victory against Bouchard.

Two days later, after the impressive clean sweep against Williams, Halep said:“I feel unbelievable now”.“It’s the greatest game of my life. I cannot express my feelings. I am very happy. I just want to enjoy this success. Defeating Serena was my dream. But I couldn’t have played today without the Romanians and all fans’ help. I feel extraordinarily. Yet, I have to forget about this game right away and focus further on for the next game (with Ana Ivanovic)”, Halep also stated. She admitted she had been aggressive and got possession of the tennis ball quite early.

Serena Williams congratulated Simona Halep, tweeting that she has been played amazingly and wishing her good luck from now on.

Halep will get USD 406,000 check after Wednesday’s victory and 460 WTA points. She will also get 70 points for the next game with Ivanovic, no matter if she wins or looses.
