Shakhtar’s Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu to have a statue in Donetsk

Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu, who led soccer club Shakhtar of Donetsk to their biggest victories, will have a statue in this Ukrainian city, the club reported on its website on Friday.
A decision to install the work was made on July 29, Lucescu’s birthady; a miniature version was presented on the occasion. The full-scale statue will be unveiled in the Donbass Arena park after Shakhtar’s return to Donetsk, Agerpres informs.
Shakhtar plays its home matches in Lvov because of the current situation on Ukraine.
“The sculpture, which will be made of bronze, will fill the unique atmosphere of the Donbass Arena park with special energy and winning spirit, it will be a bright ornament of the landscape and one of the favourite places for Shakhtar’s fans,” said the club.
The author of the work is Ukrainian sculptor Ihor Glukhenkiy — a member of the Union of Ukrainian Artists — known for several projects implemented in Ukraine, USA, Japan, Italy and Turkey.
