Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, has been celebrated by the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) on Tuesday, and has been awarded the Cross of St. Andrew the Apostle.
The award comes days after she was named Honorary Ambassador of the Ovidius University in Constanta.
Simona Halep, 1st WTA, has taken a vacation, forced by back injury, however she will finish the year on top of the WTA rankings.
Upon receiving the Cross, Simona Halep said, according to Pro TV private broadcaster: “I want to start by saying God help us! Thank you very much for this distinction, I am very honoured. I always make the sign of the cross and I believe in God, as without the help of God nothing can be done. I wish you all good health and may God help us all.”
