Simona Halep outperforms Maria Sharapova – 22nd week as WTA leader

Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, is in the 22nd week as leader of the WTA rankings. The Romanian has thus climbed on the 14th place in an all-time ranking, outperforming Maria Sharapova.

The total number of weeks spent by Halep WTA no.1 has reached 22, and the moment can be described as a historic for Romanian tennis. Sharapova, five times Grand Slam champion, was on the first position for 21 weeks.

Simona Halep also outperformed Tracy Austin (US), another world tennis legend with a 21-week record. Halep is also ahead of other top tennis players, who were at the top, such as Kim Clijsters (Belgium, 20 weeks), Jelena Jankovic (Serbia, 18 weeks) or Jennifer Capriati (USA, 17 weeks).

Steffi Graf tops the all time rankings with 377 weeks at the top of the WTA rankings.

Halep is currently the undisputed leader in the WTA circuit, 1,350 points ahead of Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark).
