Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Games: Alina Rotaru wins long jump event gold medal

Romanian athlete Alina Rotaru has won the long jump event gold medal on Thursday, at the Summer Universiade Games in Taipei, Taiwan.

Rotaru’s jump was of 6.65 metres, followed by Nekratia Panayi (Cyprus) 6.42 metres and Anna Buehler (Germany) 6.38 metres.

Rotaru failed in the first two attempts and risked being eliminated, however in the third attempt she succeeded a 6.41 metres jump. The 6.65 metres result was registered in the fifth attempt.

Romania’s team balance sheet in Taipei is of three gold medals (2 in gymnastics) and athletics, and three bronze medals. Larisa Iordache (gymnastics – balance beam), Andrei Muntean (gymnastics – vault) and Andrei Gag (athletics – put).

Romania participates in Taipei with a delegation of 121 people, of which 91 are athletes. Romanian athletes are competing in athletics, weightlifting, table tennis, men’s volleyball, swimming, diving, basketball, men’s water polo, gymnastics, fencing and judo.

Romania was ranked 29th by nations at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju (South Korea), winning one gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
