Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache has won the gold medal at the individual all-around event on Tuesday in the artistic gymnastics contest of the 29th Summer Universiade Games in Taipei, Taiwan.
Larisa Iordache (21 years old) has brought Romania the first medal. The gymnast from CS Dinamo has won on Tuesday the all-around competition (individual), with a total of 56.750 points, superior to that the one obtained in qualification rounds (55.700), prosport.ro informs.
Larisa started in the vault event, where she was awarded a 14.400 mark. Then followed the uneven bars, where she received a 14.300 mark, the second note in the contest after Spiridonova (Russia). At half contest, Larisa Iordache was already on the first position, clearly outpacing her main opponent, Elisabeth Black (Canada), who failed the exercise at the uneven bars (12.900).
The Romanian gymnast consolidated her position in the rankings with the balance beam exercise. Although she fell down the balance beam during the exercise, as she did during the qualifying round, Larisa received the mark of 14.000. From that moment on, it had become clear that she could not miss the gold medal, having a lead of 1.3 points against the second position. Larisa Iordache’s last exercise was at the floor, where she got the mark of 14.050. The podium was completed by Asuka Teramoto (Japan) – 55.650 and Elisabeth Black (Canada) – 54.950.
On Wednesday, Larisa will compete in three finals: beam, uneven bars and floor, with chances for a medal in all events.
Also tomorrow, Andrei Muntean will compete in the men’s vault final.
