Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 2nd WTA, will start the season on grass courts at the Eastbourne tournament to take place during June 25-July 1, after receiving a wild card from the organisers.
“Really excited to be playing @AegonTennisEB for the 1st time. Big thank you to the tournament for the WC. See you soon Eastbourne,” Halep wrote on Twitter.
The Eastbourne tournament awards prizes amounting to USD 753,000.
In the tournament will play Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic, 3rd WTA), Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia, 5th WTA), Johanna Konta (6th WTA), Garbine Muguruza (Spain, 7th WTA), as well as the WTA leader, Angelique Kerber, who has also received a wild card.
Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu will also compete.
The Eastbourne tournament is the last tournament before Wimbledon. In 2016 the Eastbourne tournament was won by Cibulkova, who defeated 7-5, 6-3 Karolina Pliskova.
