Tennis: Simona Halep will not play in Eastbourne due to medical problems

Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, 1st WTA, will not play at the Eastbourne tournament next week.

She has announced on Wednesday that she is forced to withdraw from the tournament with prizes worth USD 800,000 due to an injury.

“I’m very sorry to announce that I’m withdrawing from next week’s Nature Valley International.

I was experiencing Achilles tendon pain and inflammation during the French Open and it has yet to fully recover. I’ve been advised by my doctors that it needs more rest while continuing treatment.

I loved competing in Eastbourne last year and hope to see you at this wonderful event next year.

Thank you for the understanding and support.

Love Simo” – is her message posted on Facebook.

Simona Halep was the main favourite of Eastbourne tournament scheduled during June 24-30. Thus, the first tournament to which Halep will participate after winning the Roland Garros 2018 trophy will be also a Grand Slam, Wimbledon 2018, which will take place during July 2-15.
