UEFA Nations League: Romania defeats Montenegro 1-0 to finish second in group

Romania’s national football team defeated Montenegro 1-0 in Podgorica on Tuesday, and has finished second in the fourth group of the C Series of UEFA Nations League.

George Ţucudean (photo), striker of the national yeam, scored the only goal against Montenegro after a fast counterattack in the 44th minute.

“I’m glad I scored and we’ve won, I’m sorry the other results did not help us, but I believe we had a good game, a very good campaign. Right now we were talking about the match, we’ve controlled it, but so it was, unfortunately, we hope to have some luck in the draw,” Ţucudean said at the end of the match in Podgorica.

Montenegro failed to score from a penalty kick in the 72th minute (Jankovic). Ciprian Tătăruşanu, the national team goalkeeper, managed to defend the penalty and Romania has won 1-0.

Romania’s national team is thus assigned to the fourth pot for the draw for EURO 2020 qualifying groups scheduled on December 2 in Dublin, the website of the Romanian Football Federation informs.

The final tournament will be held in 12 European cities, including in Bucharest, on the National Arena.

Hungary, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Georgia are also in the fourth pot.
