UEFA Nations League: Serbia 2 Romania 2

Romania’s national football team has ended in a draw the match played on Monday in Belgrade against Serbia, 2-2, match counting for the UEFA Nations League, Group C.

Romania came from behind twice, after being led 1-0 and 2-1, by the goals scored by Mitrovic (26th min, and 63rd min.). The national team leveled the score after the half time, when Nicusor Stanciu (photo) scored from penalty kick (48th min.). Then, Tucudean scored in the 68th min. to equalize again, hitting the net after a pass from Stanciu from corner kick.

The match was dominated by Serbia, but Romania made a good game, better than the one a few days ago against Montenegro.

Coach Cosmin Contra made 6 changes in the team, against the one used against Montenegro.

In the other match in Group C, Montenegro defeated Lithuania 2-0.

Coach Cosmin Contra said after the match: “I am satisfied and happy. It was a match full of chances. With a little more luck we could have won three points. I want to congratulate the players, mainly for the second half. We showed we can play football. Unfortunately we’ve had our lesson learned in the match against Montenegro. Today we played at the same level with our opponents, the attitude was important, as we came back from behind twice. The boys want to win every match and this makes me happy. I am not satisfied because we have only two points. I wish we had four points. Serbia scored goals that could have been avoided.”

In the first match of Group C, Romania played last Friday against Montenegro, match ended in a draw 0-0.
