Update – Davis Cup: Romania 4 Zimbabwe 1

The tennis team of Romania has won on Saturday the match against Zimbabwe after Marius Copil defeated Takanyi Garanganga 6-4, 7-5 and Filip Jianu defeated Mehluli Don Ayanda Sibanda 6-3, 7-5 to make the general score 4-1. The encounter took place in the Polyvalent Hall in Piatra Neamt, and counts for the first round of Davis Cup Europe-Africa zone Group 2.

On Saturday, in the doubles match, Horia Tecau/Florin Mergea defeated the pair made up by Benjamin Lock and Courtney Lock 6-1, 6-4.

On Friday Romania and Zimbabwe were in a draw, 1-1, after Dragoş Dima defeated Takanyi Garanganga 6-3, 6-3. Dima (327th ATP) defeated Takanyi Garanganga (449th ATP) in one hour and 23 minutes.

In the first match, Benjamin Lock (546th ATP) unexpectedly defeated Marius Copil (80th ATP) 6-4, 7-5.

Romania and Zimbabwe played only once in the Davis Cup, in 2000 in Harare, with Romania winning 3-2.
