Romanian athlete Alin Alexandru Firfirica won on Monday the silver medal in the men’s discus throw event at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan.
Firfirica managed the best result in the qualifying, namely 61.98 m.
In the final, the Romanian athlete was outperformed by US Reginald Louis Jagers III (61.24 m), while Hungarian Robert Tamas Szikszai ranked 3rd (60.91 m).
On Tuesday, Romanian table tennis player Bernadette Szocs has won the bronze medal in the women’s singles tennis table at the Taipei Summer Universiade after defeating Jihee Jeon (South Korea) 4- 0.
Szocs has brought Romaniathe 11th and last medal in Taipei, the final balance sheet being three gold medals, two silver and six bronze medals.
At the Taipei Summer Universiade, Romania has so far won medals only in gymnastics and athletics competitions.
Two gold medals were won by Larisa Iordache in the women’s artistic gymnastics all-round event and the floor event; Alina Rotaru won another gold by in women’s long jump; Nicolae Alexandru Soare won silver in the men’s 10,000m race event and Alin Firfirica in men’s discus throw, while the bronze medals were won by Larisa Iordache (balance beam), Andrei Muntean (men’s gymnastics, vault) and athletes Andrei Gag (men’s shot put) and Bianca Razor (women’s 400m).
