In a global context where prestigious universities are turning their attention to gaming and digital art enthusiasts, ECHO School, which offers the first undergraduate programs in Romania dedicated to the development of video games and digital art, announces its participation at East European Comic Con 2025, which will take place at Romexpo from April 25 to 27.
In a rapidly changing educational landscape, video game and digital art enthusiasts are becoming one of the most sought-after categories of future students. From Ivy Leagues to European technical universities, higher education institutions are following an international trend of attending gaming events to discover young people with creative and technical potential.
In this global context, ECHO School, through its partnership with Abertay University, plays a key role, aiming to become a pillar in Romania for training new generations of specialists in the game development and digital art industry.
ECHO School offers young people attracted to video games and digital art the opportunity to turn their hobby into a career through dedicated academic programs and access to an industry that generates over 230 million euros annually in Romania alone. The school is already an active player in the local gaming ecosystem, being present at other key events such as Bucharest Gaming Week.
This initiative is in line with international trends, where recognized academic institutions, such as Harvard University, have integrated programs dedicated to the video game industry into their educational offerings. For example, Harvard offers free online introductory courses on video game development, as well as student clubs active in the field, such as the Harvard Interactive Media Group, which organizes gaming events and tournaments.
In Europe, Gamescom 2024, the world’s largest event dedicated to the video games industry, highlighted the growing interest of universities in gaming and game development. Among the exhibitors were academic institutions such as Aalto University and Northeastern University, who presented their educational programs in game development and interacted directly with video game enthusiasts.
At Comic Con 2025, visitors to the ECHO booth will be able to explore the school’s academic offerings, watch live digital art demonstrations, talk directly to the team about admissions and careers, and get hands-on feedback during portfolio check sessions with recognized mentors such as George Munteanu – Game Art Director at Gameloft.
