The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has confirmed the disqualification of Romanian weightlifter Gabriel Sîncrăian from the Summer Olympics 2016 and the withdrawal of the bronze medal he won in Rio de Janeiro after the athlete tested positive at a doping control carried out during the competition.
In a statement released Thursday evening, CAS states that Gabriel Sîncrăian violated the anti-doping rules after testing positive to exogenous testosterone, a nonspecific substance on the list of products banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA/WADA) following checks conducted during the competition, on August 12, 2016.
CAS adds that the results obtained by Gabriel Sîncrăian at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, including the bronze medal won in the 85 kg category are cancelled.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced on October 13 that four weightlifters, among them Gabriel Sincraian, broke the anti-doping regulations at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and were thus disqualified.
Romanian weightlifter Gabriel Sîncrăian was provisionally suspended since September 30 by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for a positive doping test at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where he won the bronze medal in the 85 kg category.
Weightlifter Gabriel Sîncrăian, who won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio, failed the doping test of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on August 29.
Sîncrăian was suspended because of doping during 2013-2015.
