Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, 5th WTA, has qualified on Monday to the second round of the Wimbledon tournament, the third Grand Slam of the year, after she defeated 6-4, 6-1 Karolina Anna Schmiedlova (40th WTA, Slovakia).
Halep (24 years, 5th WTA) won the match in only 65 minutes.
Simona Halep’s next opponent will be the winner between Anastasija Sevastova (Latvia, aged 26, 66th WTA) and Francesca Schiavone (Italy, 36, 111th WTA).
Irina Begu (25th seeded) was defeated on Monday by Carina Witthoeft (Germany) 6-1, 6-4, in the first round at Wimbledon, in a match that lasted one hour and two minutes.
