Women’s handball: Cristina Neagu signs contract extension with CSM Bucharest

Romanian handball player Cristina Neagu, 30, has signed on Tuesday, the extension of the contract with CSM Bucharest by one year. Neagu will cash in EUR 18,000 per month, as in the previous period

In February she asked for a raise, up to EUR 20,000, but the best player in the world has accepted in the end the same amount as before, digisport.ro informs. Thus, in 2019 her total revenues will reach EUR 216,000.

Cristina Neagu posted a message on a social network on Tuesday, announcing the extension of the contract with CSM Bucharest.

 “I’ve signed today the extension of the contract, for one more season. I’ve decided to stay, as I love to play in my home country, in front of Romanian supports and I want to fulfill my dream of winning the Champions League with a Romanian team. It’s been a hard season, but we’ll return stronger next year,” Neagu wrote on Facebook.

Neagu added she was saddened by the public discussions regarding her salary, her performances in world handball being ignored. “Many opined about how much I deserve to be paid, having no idea what performance sport means, the work and sacrifices it involves for reaching the top and keeping such positions,” she wrote.

CSM Bucharest announced on Tuesday, in a press release, that Cristina Neagu, best player in 2018, according to the International Handball Federation, has extended by one season her contract with the team.

In the summer of 2017, Cristina Neagu signed a two-year contract with CSM Bucharest. She is currently recovering from an injury suffered at the end of last year.
