The women’s handball team CSM Bucharest will have a new coach, following the dismissal of Helle Thomsen (Denmark) last weekend.
Telekom Sport claims it has found who the next coach will be, pointing to Per Johansson (Sweden), unofficial information, however confirmed by him in an interview granted to a publication in his native country.
“For a coach, there are few chances to win the Champions League. CSM Bucharest is one of the best handball teams in the world. Anything else but the gold medal in the Champions League is considered a failure. Nobody is saying otherwise in Romania. In order to have the chance to ‘dance’ again on the most important scene, I have accepted the offer coming from CSM. When I was told I have the opportunity to bring my whole family to Romania, I felt this is a mission I cannot turn down,” the Swedish coach said.
Per Johansson, 48, had coached CSM Bucharest before, at the end of last season.
Reportedly, the CSM Bucharest management has called Johansson after being refused by Norwegian coach Thomas Ryde, former coach of the national team of Romania.
On the list of coaches for CSM Bucharest was also Norwegian coach Ole Gustav Gjekstad, formerly coach of Larvik.
Helle Thomsen was dismissed last weekend as coach of the CSM Bucharest women’s team, following the poor results registered by the team lately.
In two week’s time, CSM Bucharest will play the Champions League quarter-finals vs. Metz (France). The first match will take place in Bucharest on April 6, with the return match on April 15 away.
