Alexandru Dedu, President of the Romanian Handball Federation (FRH) has announced on Friday that Tomas Ryde (Sweden) has been appointed as coach of the national women’s team of Romania.
The contract will cover the entire period until the end of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, FRH informs.
“Following the talks with Coach Ambros Martin, we have commonly agreed to terminate the collaboration contract. I’d like to thank him for what he did for us. He has built a professional environment, with smiles on the faces, I wish him success further on. Together with my team, we’ve been looking for a coach who knows Romania, who has won the last medal for Romania in women’s handball and I am very happy to announce that the new coach of the national team will be, again, Tomas Ryde, in view of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and what lies ahead until then,” Alexandru Dedu said.
In turn, Tomas Ryde said he is honoured to return as coach of one of the best national teams in the world.
“I did not hesitate for a second, I like very much to work here, I like the team and the staff, this is a challenge I want. Looking at Romania from abroad, I’ve noticed the progress in the past years, both of the players and of the sports halls, I am impressed. I am happy to return to Romania, I know what needs to be done and I thank you for your confidence in me,” Ryde said.
Tomas Ryde is coach of the women’s national team of Romania. He managed the team in two major competitions: the World Championship in Denmark 2015 (bronze medal) and the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
