Romanian wrestler Andrei Dukov has won the silver medal in the 57 kg free style category on Tuesday night at the European Wrestling Championship in Novi Sad (Serbia) after being defeated in the final by Georgian Azerbaijani Ghiorghi Edisherashvili.
Dukov (CSA Steaua) has exceeded his performance registered last year when he won the bronze medal in continental competitions.
Andrei Dukov (29) defeated Serbian Aleksandar Mancic in the last sixteen round, then the Spaniard of Georgian origin Levan Metreveli Vartanov and in the semi-finals he defeated Suleyman Atli (Turkey).
Edisherashvili (29) was European champion in 2013 at the 55 kg category.
Also on Tuesday, on the first day of European Championship in Novi Sad, Alina Vuc (photo) won the bronze medal in the 48 kg category, after defeating Anna Lukasiak (Poland) in the decisive match.
Romania, which has already reached its goal for this competition, the winning of two medals, participates with 14 athletes at the European Wrestling Championship in Novi Sad.
