Romanian tennis player Simona Halep will play in the Red Group against Angelique Kerber, Madison Keys and Dominika Cibulkova, according to the draw in Singapore on Friday.
Angelique Kerber is WTA number one and favourite in Singapore, American Madison Keys is sixth seeded and Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia) will be seeded seventh. Halep is the third favourite of the tournament.
Halep has the advantage in the direct matches against two adversaries: Kerber 4-3, Madison Keys 4-1, it’s behind Cibulkova 3-2, but she defeated her this year in Madrid.
In Group White will play Polish Agnieszka Radwanska, second favourite and title holder, Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic), seeded fourth and Spanish Garbine Muguruza, fifth favourite, and the last qualified player to be decided between Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova and Johanna Konta (UK).
Halep plays for the third time in the WTA Finals. In 2014 she played the final against Serena Williams and in 2015 she failed to get out the group stage.
The WTA Finals tournament in Singapore will be held during October 23-30 and awards total prize money of USD 7 million.
