Halep has a balance sheet of 19 wins and 3 defeats on clay. She won the Madrid tournament, played the final in Rome and semi-finals in Stuttgart, being defeated in the final at Roland Garros by Jelena Ostapenko 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. She also leads the standings in the race for Singapore.
This year’s winners were: Serena Williams – January, Elina Svitolina – February, Elena Vesnina – March and Laura Siegemund – April.
