Airbus Helicopters has begun the construction works of the assembly plant for Super Puma MK 1 in Ghimbav, ‘Buna Ziua Brasov’ daily informs, adding that the investment will amount to EUR 40 million and the first civil military helicopters will be manufactured in 2017 following a year later by the military helicopters. The plant will be built on a plot of IAR Ghimbav’s land, a company that will be the main supplier of the new factory.
The newspaper writes that the construction works have begun last month, but an official announcement has not been made. Guillaume Faury, president and CEO of Airbus Helicopters, said earlier this year that part of the Super Puma assembly equipment is already moved to the subsidiary in Romania – Eurocopter Romania – after it completed last year the modernizing of 24 Puma helicopters for the Royal Air Force, European Security and Defence Press Association (ESDP) informs.
The plant is to be built on an area of ??27,000 square meters provided by IAR Ghimbav. The investment amounts to around EUR 40 million and another EUR 11 million investments from IAR Ghimbav, the company that will be the main supplier of the factory.
The plant will be operated by Vadstena SRL, a company founded by people from Airbus Helicopters and the industrial plant will have in the first phase 8,550 square meters.
