ANAT excludes ‘Genius Travel’ as the agency announces it is insolvent

The National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) has excluded Genius Travel a few days after the agency announced its customers via email that is insolvent.

The decision comes “for moral damage to the association, image damage created for member and non-member travel agencies, which work correctly and respect their customers, material damage for tourists who bought holidays from Genius Travel and cannot enjoy them,” reads a release issued by the association.

The ANAT reaction comes five days after the agency’s clients received the first emails informing that Genius Travel is insolvent and will not be able to honour the paid holidays.

According to ANAT, the association demanded explanations from Genius Travel since last Friday, August 12, when many tourists have contacted the association after receiving the message from the agency. ANAT guided the tourists to check their reservations, even after the agency informed its customers and the association on Saturday that it has overcome the critical situation. Complaints continued on Tuesday when Genius Travel repeated the announcement of opening the insolvency proceedings, this time on August 19.

“The current situation gives good reason for ANAT to ask once again for the legal framework revision to guarantees the amounts paid by tourists. ANAT will soon file a draft law for the establishment of a guaranteeing private fund,” the ANAT release reads.
