Automobile Dacia, OMV Petrom SA – among the 500 largest companies in Central and Eastern Europe

The companies Automobile Dacia, OMV Petrom Marketing SRL and OMV Petrom SA are among the top Romanian companies by turnover in a ranking of the 500 largest companies in Central and Eastern Europe conducted by the international credit insurance company Coface.

“The economies have benefited from domestic demand due to increased private consumption and investments in most economies. Positive export rates were achieved due to the gradual recovery of the main trade routes of Central and Eastern Europe, of the Eurozone (where the GDP grew by 1.6%) and with the support from EU funds,” says Katarzyna Kompowska, Coface Regional Manager for Central and Eastern Europe.

The average growth of the GDP in Central and Eastern Europe in 2015 was of 3.3%, up from 2.6% in 2014, the Coface release reads.

High growth was recorded for textiles and in the clothing sector, of 14.8%, followed by the automotive sector and transport, of 10.3%.

Romania and Poland dominate the sectors of agriculture, meat processing, agri-food and winemaking, with seven Romanian companies and 19 Polish companies present in the top 500, according to Coface.

Companies in Romania have local ownership rate of 21%, while Czech companies have local ownership rate of 37% and Poland of 43%, according to Coface.
