Average gross earnings on total economy RON 5,773 in October, the net – RON 3,544

In October 2021, the average gross nominal earnings were 5773 lei, with 41 lei (+0.7%) higher than the one registered in September 2021, says the latest report released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Monday.
The average net nominal earnings were 3544 lei, increasing as against the previous month, with 27 lei .(+0.8%).

The highest values of the average net nominal earnings were recorded in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (including information service activities) (8596 lei), while the lowest in accommodation and food service activities (1907 lei).

As compared to October of the previous year, the average net nominal earnings increased by 6.0 %).
Earnings in relation with the evolution of consumer prices
. The real earnings index1 was 98.2% for October 2021 in relation with the same period of previous year. The real earnings index was 99.0% for October 2021 as against previous month.

As compared to October 1990, the real earnings index was 220.8%, by 2.2 percentage points lower than
the one recorded in September 2021.

Fluctuations in earnings were recorded during the year, mainly determined by granting annual premiums and
holiday bonuses (December, March/April). These are influencing the increases or decreases depending on the
period they are granted, finally leading to smoothing the fluctuations in monthly earnings at the level of the
whole year.

The evolution of real earnings depends on both the fluctuations of the average net nominal earnings and the
inflation rate.

October 2021 as compared to September 2021
In October 2021, in the majority of activities belonging to the economic sector, the level of the average net
earnings increased as against the previous month due to granting of occasional bonuses (quarterly, annual or
performance bonuses), payments in kind and other allowances, amounts from the net profit and other funds
(including value tickets). Also, the increases of the average net earnings were due to higher production
achievements or receipts level (depending on contracts/projects).

The most significant increases in the average net earnings at section/division level of NACE Rev.2 have been
recorded as follows:

By 8.1% in manufacture of basic metals;

Between 3.5% and 7.5% in manufacture of tobacco products, publishing activities, manufacture of basic
chemicals, fertilisers and nitrogen compounds, plastics and synthetic rubber in primary forms, manufacture of
computer, electronic and optical products, scientific research and development;

Between 1.5% and 3.0% in other mining and quarrying, warehousing and support activities for transportation,
water transport, manufacture of electrical equipment, postal and courier activities, electricity, gas, steam and
air conditioning supply, professional, scientific and technical activities, manufacture of rubber and plastic
products, manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment), administrative and
support service activities.

The decreases of the average net earnings as against September 2021 were determined by occasional bonuses,
payments in kind and other allowances, amounts from the net profit and other funds (including value tickets)
granted in the previous months. Also, the decreases of the average net earnings were caused by
suspending/ceasing the economic activity, by technical unemployment or partial remuneration of the
employees, by lower production achievements or receipts level (depending on contracts/projects).

The most significant decreases in the average net earnings at section/division level of NACE Rev.2 have been
recorded as follows:

By 21.5% in extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas, respectively by 12.5% in manufacture of coke and
refined petroleum products;

Between 6.5% and 7.5% in mining support service activities, printing and reproduction of recorded media,
mining of metal ores;

Between 1.0% and 3.0% in forestry and logging (including fishing and aquaculture), activities auxiliary to
financial services and insurance activities, other service activities, manufacture of wood and of products of
wood and cork (except furniture, including manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials),
manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers, manufacture of beverages, repair and installation of
machinery and equipment, manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations,
accommodation and food service activities.

In the budgetary sector, the average net earnings registered increases compared to the previous month in human
health and social work activities (+3.8%), respectively in education (+2.5). In public administration, the average net
earnings had the same level as the one registered in the previous month.
