The Competition Council (CC) has opened an investigation regarding a possible abuse of dominant position on Orange Romania, the authority has announced on Monday, according to hotnews.ro. The investigation relates to possible discrimination practiced by the telekom operator in relation to companies operating on the market of payments via mobile phone short messages, namely on the market of short advertising messages via mobile phone in Romania.
The Competition Council also mentions that “during the investigation unannounced inspections at both the headquarters of Orange Romania and the headquarters of some SMS payment aggregators were carried out, there are indications that these companies may hold evidence necessary to the competition authority for an accurate assessment of Orange Romania behaviour on the respective markets. The documents seized during these inspections are under the analysis of the Romanian competition authority, under the specific investigation procedures.”
