‘Electric Wolf’ – the first Romanian electric car

It’s called ‘Electric Wolf’ and it will be the first Romanian electric car. Manufacturers in Ramnicu Valcea could hit it big, given that there is a new law that makes it binding for the local authorities to acquire electric cars (in a share of minimum 30% of total annual purchases), realitatea.net informs.

‘Electric Wolf’ is the first car that runs on hydrogen cells and has entered on Friday into a comprehensive project of the Institute for Cryogenic and Isotopic Separations (ICSI) Valcea, so that by the end of 2018, beginning of 2019, the car comes out on the market, according to the Director of the institute, Prof. PhD. Ioan Ştefănescu.

“We will submit the plan of costs and the work schedule to achieve the final shape of this car that will run on fuel cells. In this respect we are to increase the autonomy up to 300 kilometres and we intend to produce it for utilitarian purposes, for municipalities and other public services. We want to improve the design, we work with small businesses in this regard. The filling stations will be provided by ICSI Ramnicu Valcea,” Stefanescu said.

‘Electric Wolf’ was created in 2012 by researchers in Valcea and now looks like a utilitarian car and has a range of 180 kilometres.

In order to increase the autonomy, the battery is charged by a hydrogen fuel cell. The batteries are embedded into the car’s shell, into the floor. Electrical power systems and also the hydrogen tank are put in the van to convert energy from the cell to the battery. Currently the ‘Electric Wolf’ weights 500 kilograms.

INC-DTI – ICSI Ramnicu Valcea was founded in 1970 as the ‘G’ plant with an industrial-experimental pilot plant.
