Elena Udrea, detained in Microsoft file after nine-hour hearing

On Tuesday night the anti-corruption prosecutors detained the former minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea for 24 hours in Microsoft file, after interrogating her for nine hours.

Udrea was taken out handcuffed from The National Anti-corruption Directorate HQs and placed in the Police arrest facing preventive arrest on Wednesday. “You can handcuff Elena Udrea but you cannot handcuff the truth,” Udrea said while leaving.

Udrea was summoned at DNA to give statements in Microsoft and Gala Bute files before noon.

In the high sounding Microsoft case, she is charged with influence peddling regarding Microsoft licenses contracts signed in 2009 and regarding e-Romania project, but also with money laundering and false wealth statements.

As for Gala Bute file, the former minister is charged with abuse of office, attempt of forgery and false statements in the view of illegally obtaining EU funds, influence peddling and bribery.

Lupeni Mayor, Cornel Resmerita was also arrested in Bute Gala case on Tuesday. Initially, the mayor was placed under house arrest, but anti-corruption prosecutors challenged this decision, so that Bucharest Court of Appeal gave a different ruling on Tuesday, putting Resmerita behind bars.

Elena Udrea arrest comes only a day after the Chamber of Deputies gave green light for her arrest with 219 votes in favour and 102 against.
