European Commissioner Corina Cretu approves the funding of three infrastructure projects in Romania worth EUR 407m

European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu, has approved the funding of three road infrastructure projects, EUR 407 million from the cohesion funds, a release from the representative office of the EC in Bucharest reads.

“More than EUR 336 million will be invested in building the section between the localities of Dumbrava and  Deva, part of the Lugoj-Deva motorway, part of the Trans-European Transport Network (RTE-T) as well as of the related infrastructure (bridges, crossings, tunnels). The travel time between the two towns will be cut by one third. Further EUR 62 million will be used to rehabilitate a section of the national road DN 6, connecting the cities of Alexandria and Craiova, in the south-west of the country, in view to improve road security and to cut the travel time by three quarters of an hour,” the document reads.

Approx. EUR 9 million will fund the building of the road section between Timisoara and Lugoj and a deviation in Timisoara region.

“These projects, funded by the European Union, have the triple target to improve road security, to contribute to the economic development of the regions and to consolidate the territorial cohesion in Romania,” the European Commissioner for Regional Policy said.
