Democrat Liberal Party top leader, Adriean Videanu, the incumbent president of the Bucharest party branch, was detained by anti-corruption prosecutors on Thursday night, in the file in which the former organized crime chief prosecutor, Alina Bica is investigated.
Videanu left the National Anti-corruption Directorate handcuffed and placed under arrest at Bucharest Police. The Supreme Court will decide on Friday if Videanu will be arrested for 30 days.
The former Economy minister is charged with complicity of abuse of office, judicial source told Mediafax. More precisely, Alina Bica, as chief prosecutor of the Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigation (DIICOT), would have abusively lifted a seizure order applied to 80 shares worth RON 277,000 owned by Videanu at his company Titan Mar joint-stock company.
Arrest was laid on Videanu’s shares in the file in which the Democrat Liberal leader is investigated for creating a USD 11 M prejudice and for jeopardizing the national energetic system on natural gas sector.
So, by lifting the seizure order, Bica would have helped Videanu to cover his shares and to take unfair advantage, worth RON 277,000, of transferring them.
Adriean Vieanu came at the DNA offices for hearings earlier in the day, but initially it was thought that hearings were connected to Microsoft file, due to the statements recently made by former minister Gabriel Sandu, who said he paid important sums of money to the Democrat Liberal Party in exchange for his minister position. Former PM Emil Boc, and other PDL leaders such as Vasile Blaga, Adriean Videanu, Roberta Anastase were accused of dealing with this business.
