Ploiesti, 3rd in the world in terms of Internet speed, after Singapore and Hong Kong

The city of Ploiesti (60 km north of Bucharest) is ranked third in the world in terms of access speed to the Internet, after Singapore and Hong Kong, Irina Lucan-Arjoca, deputy director general of the Romanian Office for Copyright said on Monday during a conference on intellectual property in the digital environment.

“Romania is on the top spots in Europe and the world in terms of access speed the Internet, both for loading and unloading. The city of Ploiesti is third in the world after Singapore and Hong Kong,” Lucan-Arjoca said.

In Ploiesti, the Internet has a speed of 102.35 Mbps, is followed by Iasi – 101.43 Mbps, and Bucharest – 96.18 Mbps.

However, the ORDA official pointed out that 39% of the country’s inhabitants have never used the internet, according to a World Bank study.
