RON 3.5bn contracts signed for the rehabilitation of 80 km of railway on Corridor IV for speeds of 160 km/h

About 80 km of railway on the Km 614 – Barzava (Cap Y) and Barzava (Cap Y) – Ilteu (Cap Y) sections will be rehabilitated after the CFR SA National Railway Company and the Astaldi SpA – FCC Construccion SA – Salcef Construzioni Edili e Ferroviary SpA – SC Thales Systems Romania SRL have signed two contracts worth RON 3.45 billion for the two sections.

The railway sections are on the Pan-European Corridor IV: Nurnberg-Prague-Vienna-Budapest-Curtici-Simeria-Brasov-Bucharest-Constanta, hotnews.ro reports.

“The contracts aim at rehabilitating 77.95 km of railway infrastructure and superstructure for the movement of passenger trains with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, earthworks and consolidations throughout the entire length, building/upgrading 28 bridges (of which two over the Mures River) and 64 small bridges, the construction of a 603 metres long tunnel, civil works in 11 railway stations, electrification and energy supply works, as well as works for the implementation of the safety system ERTMS traffic (ETCS Level 2 + GSMR),” CFR informs.

The funding source for the execution of the rehabilitation works is provided by non-reimbursable funds and by the state budget, and the estimated total value of the two contracts is RON 3,453,353,196.57 (VAT excluded).
