Spain buys the first H215 helicopter, which will be produced in Romania as of 2018

Spain air forces received on Tuesday the first H215 helicopter, which will be produced in Romania as of 2018 in the plant in Ghimbav (Brasov County).

The helicopter was commissioned in July 2016 by the Spanish Ministry of Defence, through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), a release informs.

The final tests for the new helicopter took place at the factory in Albacete on September 22.

“H215 is the perfect acquisition for the modern air forces. Spain’s decision to purchase the helicopter that we will produce soon in Romania confirms the European value of the H215 and opens the door to other air forces to strengthen their capabilities. We are eager to commence production of the H215 in Ghimbav and we hope that Romania will buy the first helicopter produced by Romanians,” said Serge Durand, Airbus Helicopters Industries director, which leads the group’s operations in Romania.

Helicopters Airbus inaugurated on September 13, 2016 the new factory in Brasov County, in the presence of French President Francois Hollande and Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos. The first H215 manufactured 100% in Romania could pull off the assembly line in 2018. The plant in Ghimbav will have 350 employees when production reaches full capacity.
