Both Romania and Europe register huge frauds on VAT, and it’s the causes to be eliminated, Gabriel Biris, secretary of state with the Finance Ministry said on Thursday.
“Regarding the taxation on consumption, the VAT, we register huge frauds both in Romania and in Europe. Why? Isn’t it, the European legal framework on VAT an invitation to fraud? Isn’t this the reason? We notice behaviour without incentives for those who work, create, those who want to be honest citizens of the country. We do nothing to tax for real the undeclared amounts,” Biris said.
Biris claims the government is the one to show solutions to eliminate the causes, not only to address the effects of frauds.
“We see provisions of the Tax Code without any effect. Why aren’t they leading to effects? It’s important to follow the causes, to cut down effects. We know what the causes are. Every important sector in Romania has specialists to point to them. It’s up to Politics, to the government to come up with solutions in order to eliminate the causes, and not only to treat the effects,” the secretary of state said.
