Bucharest has been ranked among the most affordable destinations in Europe. Coming in third on this list by enjoytravel.com, Romania’s capital—once called the “Little Paris”—is now known as the “New Berlin.”
The ranking has been conducted based on the Price of Travel’s Europe Backpacker Index, which calculates costs based on the best budget sleeping, sightseeing, eating, drinking and public transport options available in each city.
So, first ranked in this chart is Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, second comes Krakow, Poland and Bucharest comes third. “Average daily cost on a budget: €24.03. Recently becoming known as the “new Berlin”, there’s some seriously cool things to do in Bucharest. Home to the real-life prince who inspired Dracula, historic churches and vibrant beerhalls, you won’t be bored here. In fact, you probably won’t really want to leave,” says Bucharest’s description.
We would add that, as it is known for its lively arts scene, historic architecture, and bustling nightlife, Bucharest offers travelers a unique blend of Eastern European charm and modern flair. From affordable dining options to reasonably priced accommodations, the city is perfect for those looking to explore without breaking the bank. Highlights include the grand Palace of the Parliament, beautiful Cismigiu Gardens, and the charming Old Town, packed with cafés, bars, and art galleries. Accessible and full of character, Bucharest is an ideal spot for an affordable, memorable getaway.
