After years of relentlessly searching for a solution, officials announce that the symbolic building of Constanta is on the brink of being restored, read local combined reports.
Last fall, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Vice-premier Liviu Dragnea promised to find funds for the rehabilitation of Constanta Casino. Recently, Decebal Fagadau, the Deputy Mayor of Constanta, announced the casino’s rehabilitation works will start this fall. Thus, the government obtained the money and it will allocate EUR 9.5 million to restore the casino. Works will take half of what it took to build the casino, respectively two years and a half. The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration will be the one to revamp it, through the National Investment Company.
It is still unknown exactly what will be the destination of the casino after its restoration, the municipality following to decide this after works will be completed. “It depends on what the population wants: museum, weddings hall or casino,” said Radu Mazare, former Mayor of Constanta.
It took five years to build the Casino in Constanta. In August 1910, the spectacular building was opening its doors, but now it is only a pale recollection of the past splendor. The casino was, over the time, ballroom, hospital, restaurant, nightclub.
The latest restoration of the historic monument was made right before the ’89 Revolution, in 1986, and works lasted for one year.
